Pastor Marcus Mann is the son of the late Jim Banks Jr. and John and Annie Gray, a native of Carthage, MS and a graduate of South Leake High School. He is regarded as one of the best basketball players to ever wear a uniform and helped lead the South Leake Wildcats to a State Championship during his Sophomore Year. He is also known for his academic successes in which he graduated Salutatorian of the 1992 Class.

He received a full scholarship to East Central Community College and in 1993 in which he helped lead East Central Community College to its first state championship in men’s basketball in 40 years. In 1994, he graduated with honors and his Associate Arts Degree. He was later inducted into the East Central Community College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004. Mann was a First Team All-American selection and was twice named on the All-Region 23 and All-State teams. He is also a member of the ECCC Academic Hall of Fame. He was later inducted into the Mississippi Junior College Hall of Fame.

He continued his success on the hardwood at Mississippi Valley State University, where he led the Delta Devils to the Southwest Athletic Conference title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament against Georgetown University his senior season. He was selected SWAC “Player of the Year” and led the nation in NCAA Division I rebounding. In 1996, he graduated magna cum laude with a BS degree in Health and Physical Education. He was inducted into the MVSU Hall of Fame, as well as the SWAC Hall of Fame.

Mann was a top draft choice in the 1996 National Basketball Association draft. He was the Golden State Warriors’ 40th pick in the second round. After reaching his goal of being a player in the NBA, Mann had a sudden loss of interest in the sport he once loved so much and decided to leave the limelight to follow a call to the ministry.

In 1997, he became an ordained minister at Jones Chapel Baptist Church. He later became a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Willie Jones. He began his first Pastoral Assignment at Balucta Baptist Church in Forest, MS for 4 years. He later became the Pastor of Sylvarena Baptist Church in Johns, MS. After serving there for 8 years, He currently serves as pastor of First Baptist Church, Carthage, Miss., and is a full-time chaplain for Tyson Foods, Inc. in Forest.

Lastly, in 2016, he graduated with honors from Hampton University with a Master of Science Degree in Sports Administrations

He has one daughter, Genesis A’Miyah Mann.
